The project we made at my November workshops used the Christmas Star single stamp, gold embossing powder and Mini Muslin Bags, and I showed everyone a "transferred embossing" technique. This is a great way of getting a perfectly stamped image onto the Mini Muslin Bags.

Christmas Star Note Card and Muslin Gift Bag

I CASEd this project idea from the Stampin' Up! blog. Here's the step-by-step instructions on how to do it...

  1. Stamp your image using VersaMark onto a piece of wax paper. (I used standard baking paper from the kitchen.)
  2. Add embossing powder and heat set.
  3. Iron your Mini Muslin Bag so it has a nice, flat surface.
  4. Place the embossed image on top of the bag with the embossed-side facing down. Gently iron the back of the wax paper so that the embossing powder melts and adheres to the bag. It takes about 10-15 seconds using a hot iron.
  5. Gently remove wax paper. If it hasn't completely transferred off the wax paper, then replace the wax paper and iron again.

When you use this technique, the properties of the embossing powder changes. In this case, the gold embossing powder looses it's shine and is a colour somewhere between a dark Sahara Sand and Soft Suede - very yummy! I must try some more of the embossing powders I have on hand to see what they do!

We had a lot of fun making these at the workshops. If you want to join us for the December workshops or just want to stay informed, then click HERE to contact me to sign up for my monthly email update.
