I have seen the idea for drop-down gift boxes in many places and wondered how difficult it was to create one.  So I sat down, did the math, and found a simple design I love, just in time for Valentine's Day.

But first, let me tell you about the stamped belly band that holds my gift box closed.  I have used (almost) all the hearts in the oh-so-fun Hugs For Love stamp set to create a beautiful background.  The large heart was stamped in Crumb Cake ink, the striped heart in Calypso Coral ink, and the small ones in Cajun Craze ink.  Stamping all over a piece of cardstock to use like patterned paper is so much fun!  Here are a couple of tips I learnt along the way: (1) start with the largest stamps and finish with the smallest one to fill the gaps, and (2) know when to stop stamping!

Okay, so let's look inside my Valentine drop-down gift box.  Just slide off the belly band, and...

Tada!  The sides drop down to reveal two small, covered gift boxes.  And what's that in the middle?  Why, it's a pocket where you can add a voucher, love note, or cute note card...

This is a little 8 cm (3-1/8") note card.  For the words on the front, I used the Hugs for Love stamp set and coordinating To The Point Label Punch.  The background patterned paper is the Timeless Plaid Designer Series Paper, which matches the pieces that I added to the outside of the drop-down gift box.  I love that coordination!
