Take to the Sky Aviation Masculine Birthday Card

I have shared one of the fun projects we created at the Annual Catalogue Launch Party, which was held a few weeks ago.  The second project was this stunning aviation-themed birthday card featuring the amazing Take to the Sky Suite...

The inspiration for this masculine birthday card came from one of the patterned paper sheets in the Take to the Sky 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper pack...

Take to the Sky 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (163436) - $26.25
Twelve sheets of patterned paper: 2 each of 6 double-sided designs

Look at all those printed designs, just waiting to be cut up and used on a project!  Here are some tips for doing just that...

  • Each of the three rows is 4" high, so start cutting there.
  • The top row has one 6" panel and two 3" panels.
  • The middle row has four 3" panels.
  • The bottom row of tags are all 2" wide.

Once they are cut up, you can use each of these 13 panels on aviation, military, outdoor, or adventure-themed projects.  Or, mix and match and use them together, as I have for my birthday card.

The card base is Mossy Meadow cardstock that I have stamped with the planes and clouds from the Adventurous Sky stamp set in Mossy Meadow ink.  I chose one of the 3" x 4" panels and a 2" x 4" tag to mount on the card front.  Before adding the brown check tag, I trimmed away the top corners (following the pre-printed lines), punched a hole at the top, and threaded through a length of White Baker's Twine.

I used the coordinating Adventurous Sky Dies to add a bold biplane to complete the aviation theme for my masculine birthday card.  The plane body was die-cut from another of the patterned papers in the Take to the Sky Designer Series Paper pack, the wings from Basic Gray cardstock, and the propeller from Night of Navy cardstock.  These three plane sections are easily layered and stuck together with Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue.  The final touch is "happy birthday" stamped in Night of Navy ink and adhered underneath the biplane.

Here's a thought... cut six card bases (in whatever colours you like) and use six panels and six tags from this one sheet of patterned paper to create six fabulous birthday cards using this easy design layout!
