On the front of the card, I have stamped the stunning flower from the Cottage Rose stamp set in Jet Black StazOn ink onto Shimmery White Cardstock. Then I coloured with Calypso Coral and Old Olive Watercolor Pencils and used a Blender Pen to drag and soften the pencil pigments and create a watercolour look. You can use a Blender Pen or Water Painter to get a watercolour finish with Watercolor Pencils. I have used the Blender Pen for this card as it is easiest to control with finer details. Here are a couple of tips for this card...
- Use robust cardstock like Shimmery White Cardstock or Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper when using a wet medium like a Blender Pen or Water Painter.
- Stamp the image in solvent-based ink so that it does not run when you use a Blender Pen or Water Painter with Watercolor Pencils. Jet Black StazOn ink is perfect for this.
- Use the shading from the stamped image as your guide for colouring, and apply intense colour there. Then just pick up the edges of the applied colour (so you do not dilute the intensity of the colouring) with the Blender Pen or Water Painter and blend it over the paper.
- Be sure to scribble your Blender Pen on scrap paper until it runs clear before beginning on another colour. If you are using a Water Painter, then squeeze the barrel to release some of the water the wipe off the brush before beginning on another colour.
For a bit of fun, I have stamped the Natural Finish Ribbon using Jet Black StazOn ink.
This fun-fold card folds flat for posting...
... and opens to show the beautiful shape of this VW card.
I have stamped the same floral image from the Cottage Rose stamp set inside the card too, this time directly onto the Soft Suede cardstock. I then coloured this flower with the white Watercolor Pencil, which gives it a lovely contrast against the warm neutrals of this birthday card.
