Here is one of my first Christmas cards of the year...  This Christmas card was created using the amazing Merriest Moments stamp set and coordinating Merriest Frames Hybrid Embossing Folder.  The very pretty, non-traditional colours for this card were inspired by the Whimsy & Wonder Specialty Designer Series Paper.

I mentioned that I used the Merriest Frames Hybrid Embossing Folder to create this card.  Hybrid Embossing Folders are a new crafting technology that has flown, somewhat, under the radar.  When you purchase a Hybrid Embossing Folder, you actually get an embossing folder and a set of coordinating dies.

Here is how they work beautifully together to create magic.  Firstly, you can emboss with this 3D Embossing Folder in the same way as you always do...

You can also combine this embossing folder with dies, which is where the magic happens!  Firstly, you can insert the matching die INTO the embossing folder.  Yes, you read that right!  The die fits around the embossed image and locks into the folder so you can emboss and cut with one run through the die-cutting machine!

But wait, there's more!  You can also use the embossing folder and dies separately.  For this two-step process, I have first die-cut the intricate foliage.  I then placed the die-cut into the embossing folder, aligning up the shape to match, and then embossed to add fabulous detail and texture. 

This final die-cut-and-embossed design is what I used as the main layer on my Christmas card, with a touch of white ink brushed around the outside edges.  You can also see that I also used the embossing folder to emboss the whole card front too.
