Artistically Inked Birthday Card

Have you tried the Alcohol Inking Technique using Stampin' Blends (alcohol markers) and Isopropyl Alcohol?  It is a fun way to create swirling and pooling patterns that are similar to what you see in the Expressions in Ink Specialty Designer Series Paper.

Artistically Inked Birthday Card

Bundles: Artistically Inked Stamp Set + Artistic Dies (cling: 155456).  Ink: Just Jade (153115), Pale Papaya (155670), Polished Pink (155712).  Stampin' Blends: Just Jade (153107), Pumpkin Pie (154897), Polished Pink (155520).  Card/Paper: Mint Macaron (138344), Basic White (159228), Vellum (106584).  Accessories: Bumblebee Trinkets (155808), Gold Trim (Simply Elegant Trim: 155766).  Tools: Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine (149653), Stamparatus (148187), Blending Brushes (153611), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430).  Other: Isopropyl Alcohol.

To create this beautiful effect, begin with some non-porous medium and tack it down with washi tape or masking tape.  I have used vellum for this birthday card.  You could also use Window Sheets

Apply large patches of colour using complementary or contrasting Stampin' Blends.  I have used Just Jade, Pumpkin Pie, and Polished Pink for this card.  The dark, intense colours work the best for this technique.

Add drops of Isopropyl Alcohol to your project.  You could fill a Water Painter with Isoproyl Alcohol and use it as a dropper by squeezing the barrel or dip the end of a paintbrush.  When you add the drops, don't overdo it!  If you add too much, the colours will bleed and blend into a muddy mess.  To begin with, add a drop or two of Isopropyl Alcohol where the patches of colour meet and then leave to dry (around 2-3 minutes).  Return to your project and add a drop or two of Isopropyl Alcohol between your first drops.  Again leave to dry.  This is not a process you want to rush.  Finally, add a drop of Isopropyl Alcohol to any areas of scribbled marker you may still have.

Once dry, I adhered the vellum to Basic White cardstock, which makes the colours pop!

Artistically Inked Birthday Card

I finished my card using the Artistically Inked Bundle.  The "floral" image on the left side of my card was stamped in the same way as the ombre-stamped heart on the Strong of Heart Card.  I used the Stamparatus to stamp the image in Pale Papaya ink first, then used a Blending Brush to apply layers of Polished Pink ink to the centre of the flower, until I was happy with the intensity.  A little swirl of gold cord and a cute bumblebee adds a pretty metallic touch to this birthday card.
