I pulled out my favourite from Sale-A-Bration again, the Happy Birthday To You stamp set, to create this subtle birthday card using the Emboss Resist Technique with a pretty watercolour wash of Highland Heather and Seaside Spray ink.  Splashing ink around for this card was just much fun!

Happy Birthday To You Stamp Set (cling 152308) - FREE during Sale-A-Bration with a qualifying order

Here's a step-by-step on how you can recreate this watercolour wash-look on your birthday card, plus some tips along the way...

1. Stamp cake image in VersaMark ink on to Shimmery White cardstock, add White Stampin' Emboss Powder, tap off excess powder, and heat set.
   TIP: Rub an Embossing Buddy over cardstock before stamping your image to prevent 'stray' embossing marks.
2. Add a wash of water across the entire Shimmery White cardstock with an Aqua Painter.  While the cardstock is still wet, squeeze a closed Seaside Spray stamp pad so that ink pools in the lid, load up the Aqua Painter with ink and wash over the cardstock.  The white-embossed image will resist the ink and show through.
   TIP: Use a robust cardstock when doing a watercolour wash like this, otherwise the cardstock will quickly deteriorate.  I like to use Shimmery White for its strong construction, smooth finish, and shimmery shine.
3. Squeeze a closed Highland Heather stamp pad so that ink pools in the lid.  Load up the Aqua Painter with ink and add a wash over the flowers on the tiered cake.
4. Put the watercolour-washed cardstock aside to dry before adding to a project.
