Brusho Crystal Colour is a water-based powder that works well with resist techniques. A resist technique is when you add a waxy or shiny finish that water-based inks won't adhere to; to create a pattern or to protect parts of a stamped images from subsequent watercolouring. Resist is how I got the white highlights on the tongue, laces and toe cap of these stamped Converse-like shoes. Resist is also how I got the stamped words in white, appearing through the watercolour background. For the shoes I used a white waxy crayon or pastel over the stamped image, where I wanted to retain the white (Wax Resist Technique), For the words, I stamped and heat embossed with white embossing powder (Emboss Resist Technique). I did all this before sprinkling on Brusho Crystal Colour and spritzing with water...

Tools: Pattern Party Decorative Masks (144103), Silicone Craft Sheet (127853), Embossing Buddy (103083), Heat Tool (129056), Stampin' Spritzers (126185), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430). Other: White Crayon or White Pastel.

There's a little bit more to this card than just these two resist techniques. Do you see the brick pattern? That's achieved with a colour-lift technique. First, add a mask over a dried watercolor masterpiece, I used the brick mask from the Pattern Party Decorative Masks. Then spritz with water, remove the mask immediately, wait a few seconds for the water to re-activate the watercolours, before blotting. This technique will lift the intense colour from the card stock, leaving behind this very cool shadow effect. I used the same wax-resist and colour-lift techniques on my voucher card for the Hamilton Extravaganza.

For the first card I used Brilliant Red and Yellow watercolour powders. I was playing around with other colours from the Brusho Crystal Colour pack and also used the Prussian Blue with Moss Green powders for this second card...

Epic Celebrations Thank You Card with Brusho

Less is definitely more! I added too much Prussian Blue powder to this project and, when the crystals activated, I lost some of the stamped detail of the shoes in the intense colour. I don't dislike it, it's just not as clean and defined as the first card, resulting in a fabulous distressed, grunge look - perfect for teenagers. In fact, these techniques alongside the Epic Celebrations stamp set makes a great combination for teenager cards!
