Another Pop-up Card

I needed to make a 60th wedding anniversary card for my grandparents last weekend and had a card in mind.  However, recently I was challenged to play with pop-up cards and have been poking around the internet to get inspired.  I started to make the anniversary card I had planned in my head (which wasn't a pop-up card), but as it progressed the ideas I saw on the web crept in.  It ended up nothing like I had planned, but I love it.

Anniversary Pop-up Card

Stamps: Heard From The Heart (clear: 1020006).  Card/Paper: Cameo Coral (108603), Tempting Turquioise (100058), Whisper White (106549), Pink Flamingo DSP (113976).  Ink: Cameo Coral (103035), Tempting Turquoise (100914).  Accessories: Clear Rhinestone Brads (113144), Whisper White 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon (109025).  Tools: Scallop Circle Punch (109043), Boho Blossoms Punch (110711), Clear Block H (118490), Sticky Strip (104294), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430).

The template for this card design came from Julie's Stamping Spot.

Butterfly Spiral Pop-up Card

School holidays are over and the kids are back to school and kindy.  Over the holidays it has become a tradition for me to run a "card class" for my kids (master-four, miss-six and miss-nine) - a sort of mum-and-me event!  Anyhow, at our "class" these holidays we made a butterfly spiral pop-up card.  They loved it!  I had to make sure the card wasn't too complicated (for master-four), but had some interesting parts (for miss-nine).  I was really impressed on how they all did.  Here is my card...

Stamps: Butterfly Prints (retired), Bitty Birthday (115762).  Card/Paper: Almost Amethyst (108621), Rose Red (108613), Barely Banana (106563), Whisper White (106549).  Ink: Almost Amethyst (101723), Rose Red (101778), Barely Banana (101170).  Tools: Butterfly Punch (116629), 1-3/4" Circle Punch (112004), Scallop Circle Punch (109043), 1-3/8" Circle Punch (104401).  Non-SU!: Stick-on Rhinestones.

... and here are their re-productions...

... from left to right: master-four, miss-six and miss-nine.  In fairness, I did give master-four a bit of help, where as miss-six and -nine did it all themselves.

Spiralling butterflies!

Just as a side note, the Butterfly Prints stamp set I used here is no longer available (it was in the Summer Mini Catalogue, which finished on 31 March).  However the Butterfly Punch from that same mini catalogue is still available.

  • Click HERE to go to the Catalogue Corrections and Write-Ins page and see what else from the previous mini catalogues are still available.

Did you know that butterfly stamps from Flight of the Butterfly fits perfectly inside the Butterfly Punch?  See page 82 of the 2009-2010 Idea Book & Catalogue.

Sweet Treat Fourth Birthday

On Sunday was my son's fourth birthday.  He is chocolate mad so I made him this birthday card and fill the Sweet Treat Cup with M&Ms.  I am glad I took a photo of the card before giving it to him as it is empty now and has many little chocolate fingerprints on it!

Sweet Treat Fourth Birthday Card

Stamps: Pun Fun (115854), Defining Alphabet (116354).  Card/Paper: Pink Flamingo DSP (113976), Tempting Turquoise (108598), Summer Sun (108604), Real Red (106578), Whisper White (106549).  Ink: Basic Gray (109120), Tempting Turquiose (100814), Summer Sun (100537), Real Red (103133).  Accessories: Sweet Treat Cups (116802).  Tools: 1-3/4" Circle Punch (112004), 1-1/4" Circle Punch (104403), Photo Corners Punch (109042), Round Tab Punch (108340), Blender Pens (102845), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430).

Inside is a trap door, which he had fun with as he would pull it open and take out an M&M and close it.  After eating that one, he would get another one out.  Just one at a time!

The Sweet Treat Cups, matching 1-3/4" Circle Punch and Padded Envelopes, all which debuted in the 2009 Spring Mini, is still available through the Autumn-Winter Mini Catalogue.  Did you know that the circle piece of the Holiday Windows Movers & Shapers Die for the Big Shot also fits the Sweet Treat Cups?  By using this die for the Sweet Treat Cups you are no longer restricted to the depth of a punch.

Vintage Vogue Swaps

Last week was very busy.  Not only was I preparing for the April workshops, but on Saturday there was a demonstrator swap.  The theme for this swap was the Autumn-Winter Mini.  So I used the Big Shot for embossing and Vintage Vogue for stamping.  Here are my 30 swaps...

Vintage Vogue Swaps

This card uses the Perfect Polka Dot Textured Impressions Folder to emboss the Whisper White card.  I have altered the embossing using a chipboard frame so that the centre of the card is not embossed, perfect for the small Vintage Vogue flower and florish.

 Vintage Vogue Swap

Stamps: Vintage Vogue (wood: 119191).  Card/Paper: Rose Red (108613), Always Artichoke (108610), Whisper White (106549).  Ink: Rose Red (101778), Always Artichoke (105219).  Accessories: Clear Rhinestone Brads (113144).  Tools: Perfect Polka Dot Textured Impressions Folder (117335), Sizzix Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine (113439), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430).

Patty Bennett shows two ways of achieving this embossed effect HERE and HERE.  I wasn't game enough to cut my embossing folder, so I popped down to the local craft shop and picked up a pack of chipboard frames.  The ones I purchased measured 8 cm x 8 cm, with a 5 cm opening.  I then put it through my Big Shot...

Altered Textured Impressions Folder - using wood or chipboard frame
Sandwich (starting from the bottom):

  1. Multipurpose Platform Tab 1 (comes with your Big Shot machine)
  2. Embossing folder with cardstock inside
  3. Chipboard frame
  4. Standard Cutting Pad (comes with your Big Shot machine)

Cake & Coffee...

To celebrate the launch of the Autumn-Winter Mini Catalogue I had cake and coffee at my house on 1 April.  Yes I know there were a number who couldn't come because of Easter, but because of the school holidays and the April workshops it was that date or nothing!  However, the few that came had a play with the new products and shared ideas over cake and coffee.  It was a fun night.

We played with the new die-cutting machine, the Sizzix Big Shot, to create this cute little treat pouch, which is perfect for holding a Whittakers Milk Chocolate Square or decorative soap.

Scallop Envelope Treat Holder Make-n-Take

Stamps: Vintage Vogue (w: 119191).  Card/Paper: Washington Apple DSP (112461), Whisper White (106549).  Ink: Riding Hood Red (111836), Pumpkin Pie (105216).  Accessories: Whisper White 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon (109025).  Tools: Scallop Envelope Bigz Die (113462), Sizzix Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine (113439), Standard Premium Crease Pad (113476), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430).

This is made using two Scallop Envelope Dies - another thing you can make with this die (other than an envelope)!  The small flower stamp is from Vintage Vogue.

Vintage Vogue stamp set

We also did a make-in-take using the Heard From The Heart stamp set and Very Vintage Jumbo Wheel.

Heard From The Heart Make-n-Take

Stamps: Heard From The Heart (clear: 1020006). Very Vintage Jumbo Wheel (117693).  Card/Paper: Tangerine Tango (116206), Old Olive (106576), Whisper White (106549).  Ink: Tangerine Tango (111834), Old Olive (102277).  Accessories: White uni-ball Signo Gel Pen (105021).  Tools: Clear Block H (118490), Stampin' Around Jumbo Handle (103661), Mat Pack (105826).

I purchased Heard From The Heart as a clear-mount stamp set, along with a clear block.  It is a bit different using clear-mount stamps, so it was good to play with them.  When thinking about wood-mount and clear-mount stamps, one option is not better than the other; it all comes down to your personal preference and weighing up the pros and cons.
